Clubbing? If youre interested in joining a book club, please let Cheryl, Denise or Suzie know. We would like to get the club going in September, probably Wednesday afternoon or morning. Were looking for members, suggestions on the first book, and date/time for meetings, etc. |
---------Flying the friendly skies...and were off (to the upcoming Romantic Times Book Lovers Convention) in October. This is a first for us (attending a convention), so were looking forward to meeting authors, attending informational seminars, getting inside information about upcoming releases, and just generally having fun with fellow book lovers. Well update you in upcoming newsletters to let you in on what we experience! |
Kids and summer reading - ugh!!
The AGONY of SUMMER READING, what could be worse???
If your kids are trying to get the rest of their summer reading done, or if they’re just a tad late getting starting...drag them into Book Lovers.
We have some of the SUMMER READING books on the Westport (and other local schools’) book lists.
Even better - we have them discounted 20%.
Speaking of summer reading, if you have previous years’ books that you would like to recycle, bring them in for credit. We’ll pass them along to other HAPPY and/or NOT SO HAPPY young readers.
Keep us in mind during the school year too if you are looking for classics, literature, dictionaries (English & foreign language) new and used - all at discounted prices!
Lots of people ask me, "What are you reading?" As the manager of Book Lovers, I know some of you think I should have read every author whose books we carry; however, just like everyone else, I have other things to do. I do try to keep up on my reading though so I can make recommendations, etc. but there are too many books and soooo little time!
Here’s the deal. My favorite summer read is Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Breathing Room. My second favorite is Susan Wiggs, Home Before Dark.
A few others I would recommend are: The Mulberry Tree by Jude Devereaux, Little Bitty Lies, by Mary Kay Andres, and Flight Lessons by Patricia Gaffney. For those of you who like the suspense genre, Tess Gerritsen, The Surgeon and sequel, The Apprentice were terrific. Last but not least, I tried a new author, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Night Embrace.
These are my "picks" for the summer. When you come into the store, I would love to hear about your summer favorites!

The Mulberry Tree by Jude Devereaux - I had never read anything by this very popular author. I had no idea what to expect so I couldn’t be disappointed. It was an easy read, with characters that didn’t really move me. The story was okay, although nothing out of the ordinary. For those of you who are looking for a light summer read just to take your mind off life, I would recommend the Mulberry Tree.
Night Embrace by Sherrilyn Kenyon - Of course, I started this series without realizing it was a series! The fact that it said it was a Dark-Hunter novel didn’t mean "series" to me, it just meant a common theme (duh)! I hate to start in the middle! So here’s the thing...lots of sex? Oh yeah...hot and steamy. So if that’s a problem for you, go no further. I have to say, the book was different enough to make me want to keep reading. There is a large cast of characters. The author plans a book for each of them, were-creatures, slayers, vampires, gods and goddesses. If you’re a little intrigued, check out her website. I now have 2 of the series and will be a "hunter" myself for the rest of them. If you are a fan of something just a little "out there", along the same line as Laurel K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series, this should ring your bell. For fantasy readers this is a Book Lover’s four heart read!
Westport Harvest Festival and Book Lovers
As for the Festival, it’s on October 18 and 19. This year should prove to be even better than last with entertainment, food, music, arts/crafts, and games. In association with Westport Business to Business, look for Book Lovers at the Harvest Festival! We’ll be in the Exhibit area passing out literature and goodies - and hopefully attracting some new Book Lover customers. Stop by to say hello! |
